The Association of Electrical Wholesalers
The Association’s Aims:
1 To influence the development of the electrical industry as a whole and to encourage a spirit of cooperation and professional standing for all involved whilst representing expertly the interests of the quality manufacturers and distributors of electrical equipment.
2 To encourage an interchange of opinion between members and consolidate such opinion and bring it to the attention of relevant government authorities and/or other organisations in order to safeguard the public interest, it’s members’ interests and those interests of the electrical industry as a whole.
3 To encourage members always to strive for excellence in the quality of the product and services they offer and to instil a greater sense of responsibility and accountability whilst creating awareness of the national and international importance of the products and services they offer.
4 To protect members against the growing menace and the devaluing and damaging activities of manufacturers and distributors of substandard electrical equipment and equally protect the public against the use of potentially dangerous equipment.
Members’ Quality Charter and Pledge
AEW’s quality charter sets out and explains the Association’s minimum standards which members must adhere to relating to products placed for sale and further details the sanctions involved for non-conformance by members if they fall short of delivering on them.
1 Members’ products must comply with the Low Voltage Directive (L.V.D.) 73/23/EEC and subsequent amendments to ensure that electrical and electronic products placed for sale are protected from endangering the safety of persons, animals and property when used for applications for which they are intended.
2 Members’ products must comply with the Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (E.M.C.) 89/336/EEC and subsequent amendments to ensure that electrical and electronic products placed for sale are protected from electromagnetic disturbance, both externally and internally generated, and can operate as intended when used for applications for which they are intended.
3 Members’ products must be CE marked as defined by the CE Marking Directive to show suitability for placement on the Irish and European market.
4 Members’ products must be in compliance with all relevant national and international electro-technical standards pertaining to particular products and/or particular product groups, as applicable, as published by either the National Standards Authority of Ireland (N.S.A.I.) or CENELEC where those standards are ratified.
5 Members must cease and desist immediately from placing products for sale on the Irish/European market when they are aware that such products are in contravention with items 1 to 4 detailed above and must of their own volition initiate product recall procedures to recover any and all non-conforming product within an appropriate time frame to ensure public safety.
6 Members who do not comply with the provisions of this charter may be expelled from the Association, if it is found, upon an independent enquiry to be carried out by an independent panel of three persons (one of whom may be a member or represent a member of the Association), that the member concerned has been guilty of non compliance with the charter.
